The menu
The venison and hare are wild, taken from the Fiordland mountains rather than farmed. Add Southland lamb and beef, seafood from the coast an hour away, and a vegetarian dish every day. We have held the New Zealand Beef & Lamb Hallmark of Excellence every year since 2005.
Where the meat comes from
The venison and hare on this menu are wild. They are taken from the Fiordland mountains behind the town, not raised on a farm, which is why the venison eats leaner and darker than the farmed venison you meet on most New Zealand menus. The lamb and beef are Southland, the seafood comes off the coast about an hour away, and the salami is Gathered Game, whose deer come out of the same country.
If we are fully booked
The restaurant fills up, especially over the summer peak. When it does, The Cliff casual eatery out the back is often open as well, serving platters, snacks and sandwiches, unless a private function has it booked for the night. Call us on 03 249 7431 and we will tell you what is open that evening.
The menu changes with the seasons, so this is what is on now rather than a fixed card. Tell your server about any dietary requirements and they will talk you through the night's options.
