The Redcliff building was built in 1978 and reflects the cottage style of the early European settlers, with authentic recycled materials being used where possible. The name "Redcliff" comes from an early sheep station in the area. "Redcliff Station" is the original home of the wagon out the front and photos on the wall depicting station life.

Converted from a craft shop (built and owned by Ray and Helen Willett) to a Restaurant & Bar in 1993 it quickly became a favourite meeting place for locals and travellers. Te Anau still has a strong farming and hunting industry, and we try to showcase the regions produce in our menu, priding ourselves on simple but tantalising food with a definite New Zealand essence.

Over the past 10 years cast and crew from "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" have frequently visited and enjoyed the Redcliff experience. We've even been entertained by the talents of John Rhys Davis (Gimili) who performed a Shakespearean sonnet during our annual poets forum.
